Penang, Malaysia
Penang is one of the most livable cities in Malayisa. An island state (together with a narrow strip on the mainland), it is located in the north-western part of West Malayisa. Its interesting history as a British settlement and a thriving port of call over centuries has imbued it with a charming past and enduring presence.
Penang has a population of approximately one million people originating from various ethnic communities. In the process of being designated a World heritage site by UNESCO, it is definitely a city that attracts visitors. Penang boasts of a high standard of living. It is a highly industrialised state, has an excellent skilled workforce and an infrastructure that encompasses physical, economic, educational and social amenities that are among the best in the country.
Alongside other cities in the world, the cost of living has risen in recent years. However, it is still cheaper to live in Penang compared to other close-by cities such as Singapore, Bangkok, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur.
